Terms of Service

Last updated: 2026-07-10

These terms govern your use of the Cleanroom app for iPhone. They are written to be read, not skimmed past — especially section 05, which covers the one thing Cleanroom does that deserves your attention: helping you delete your own photos.

01Acceptance of these terms

Cleanroom (the "app") is published by [Developer legal name] ("we", "us"). By downloading or using the app, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

You must be legally capable of entering into these terms in your jurisdiction. Because the app is distributed through Apple's App Store, Apple's own Apple Media Services Terms also apply to your download and any purchase; where these terms are silent, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies to your use of the app.

How we handle data is covered separately — and it matters, so read it — in the Privacy Policy.

02License to use the app

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the app on Apple devices you own or control, for your own personal use, as permitted by the App Store rules (including Family Sharing where enabled).

You may not, except where the law expressly permits it despite this clause:

  • copy, modify, distribute, sell, rent, or sublicense the app;
  • reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the app's source code or bundled machine-learning models;
  • remove or obscure any proprietary notices.

All rights not expressly granted remain ours. Your photos, videos, and documents remain entirely yours — the app claims no rights whatsoever over your content, and (as the Privacy Policy explains) never receives it.

03In-app purchases

The app is fully functional for free, supported by ads. Two optional one-time, non-consumable purchases exist:

  • Supporter unlock — $1.99 (one time): removes ads and adds extra app icons for you.
  • Family unlock — $2.49 (one time): the same, shareable through Apple Family Sharing with up to six family members.

Terms that apply to both:

  • Purchases are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store, under Apple's terms. We never receive your payment details.
  • They are not subscriptions. There is no recurring charge, no renewal, and nothing expires.
  • Refunds are handled by Apple, not us, under Apple's refund policy. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
  • Purchases can be restored on a new device through the App Store's restore mechanism, using the same Apple ID.
  • Prices are set in your local currency by the App Store and may vary by region; the amounts above are the US prices.
  • No app feature is ever behind the purchase — it removes ads and adds icons, nothing more.

04Acceptable use

Use the app only for its purpose: organizing, reviewing, compressing, and protecting your own photo library on your own device. You agree not to:

  • use the app to store, conceal, or manage content that is illegal for you to possess, or use it in furtherance of any unlawful activity;
  • use the app on someone else's device or library without their permission;
  • interfere with, probe, or circumvent the app's security features (including the Keep's encryption) other than on your own data;
  • misrepresent the app's behavior to others, or resell or redistribute it.

You are responsible for complying with the laws that apply to you and to the content of your own library.

05Your photos, your deletions

Cleanroom's core function is helping you decide what to delete, compress, or move — and then doing exactly what you chose. This section is the deal, stated plainly:

  • Nothing is deleted, compressed, or moved without your confirmation. The app suggests; you decide. Detection is imperfect by nature — a flag is a suggestion, not a fact — so review before you confirm.
  • You are responsible for your choices. When you confirm a deletion, a compression that replaces an original, or a move into the Keep, you are instructing the app to act on your own content.
  • Built-in safeguards, honestly described: photos you delete pass through the iOS "Recently Deleted" album (recoverable for around 30 days); video compression verifies the new file is playable and saved before the original is touched; moves into the Keep verify the encrypted copy before the original is removed. These safeguards are designed so that a failure duplicates rather than loses — but no software is infallible.
  • Keep your own backups. For anything irreplaceable, maintain a backup (iCloud, a computer, anything) independent of this app.
  • The Keep has no cloud recovery. Its contents exist only encrypted on your device. If your device is lost, erased, or the app is deleted, the Keep's contents are gone and cannot be recovered by anyone, including us. Deleting the app deletes the Keep.
Plainly

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for loss of photos, videos, or other data resulting from actions you confirmed in the app, from deletion of the app or loss of your device, or from your not keeping backups.

06No account, no service, no uptime

The app runs entirely on your device. There is no account, and we operate no server that the app depends on. That means there is also no hosted service and no uptime commitment — nothing of yours is stored with us, and nothing needs to be "up" for the app to work.

We may update, change, or discontinue the app (or any feature) at any time. Because everything is local and purchases are one-time, discontinuation would not take your photos or your Keep away from the copy installed on your device, but we cannot promise future compatibility with new iOS versions.

07Disclaimer of warranty

The app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory — including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be error-free or uninterrupted, or that its detection will be accurate or complete (categories, including Sensitive, are best-effort suggestions).

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, and nothing in these terms limits statutory rights you have as a consumer that cannot be waived.

08Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:

  • we will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising out of or related to the app or these terms;
  • our total aggregate liability arising out of the app or these terms will not exceed the amount you paid us for the app in the twelve months before the claim (or ten US dollars, if you paid nothing).

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law, including (where applicable) liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. If you are a consumer, you keep every right your local consumer law gives you.

09Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of [JURISDICTION — confirm with owner], without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, and the courts of [JURISDICTION — confirm with owner] will have jurisdiction over disputes — except that if you are a consumer, you retain the protection of the mandatory laws, and access to the courts, of the place where you live.

10Changes to these terms

We may revise these terms from time to time. The current version always lives at this page, with its "Last updated" date at the top. For material changes we will make the change prominent in the app or its App Store release notes. Continuing to use the app after a change takes effect means you accept the revised terms; if you do not, stop using the app (and export anything you want from the Keep first).
